Data Gathering Procedure
Preliminary preparation. After the problems were identified, a
survey of related researches was conducted to identify common teaching
practices relevant to the present study in Philippine setting. The checklist
items on teaching effectiveness were carefully drawn from the ideas in
different researches.
Questionnaire
validation. There was a need to
pretest the professional teaching practices and the teaching effectiveness
items to validate the tools. The content specification of the questionnaire
supports content validity. Field-testing the questionnaire with ten teachers
from other schools and districts resulted in removing ambiguous items. Testing
the questionnaire registered a reliability index of .67 indicating that the
questionnaire was Moderately reliable (computation
in Appendix B). The questionnaire was administered twice to the same group in a
span of two weeks. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient or Spearman rho
was used to correlate the two sets of scores (Calmorin & Calmorin, 1997).
Administration
of the instrument. After the questionnaires were validated and finalized,
they were reproduced for distribution after approval of this study was secured.
