Digital Vs Analog Camera

As a matter of fact, IP cameras and Analog camera have their own place in the CCTV industry because it is purely based on the requirement. If your requirement is high definition, night vision and Internet friendly, then go for IP cameras. It's a good and safe bet (not good cost wise though - It is more expensive). If you are in for some reliability and credibility, the good old Analog camera will do for you.

What is an analog camera?

A camera that takes non-digital video images. The term "analog" in video refers to a recording method that stores videos in generally less crisp manner than digital video. An analog camera can record straight to a video cassette recorder which are able to record analogue signals as pictures.

Features

• Pan/tilt/Zoom
• Not web/internet enabled
• Zero maintenance as functionality is inbuilt in equipment
• Higher credibility and reliability
• Lower cost

What is an IP camera?

An IP (Internet Protocol) camera works using a digital signal which can be saved

directly to a computer. IP cameras used in CCTVs use Internet Protocol to transmit image data and control signals over a Fast Ethernet link. IP cameras are primarily used for surveillance in the same manner as analog closed-circuit television.

Features
Pan/Tilt/zoom
2 way communication
Night vision with LED
Connected to a web browser
Needs maintenance
Higher installation cost
Better price to performance ratio

How does a CCTV camera work?

A CCTV camera produces images or recordings for surveillance purposes. Images are either from Analog cameras or Digital still cameras. These both look similar in appearance as well as in image sensor components. The analog image sensor can be either CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) or CCD (Charge Coupled Device). An analog camera uses only CCD; an IP camera uses any one. In practice, CCD has better image quality than CMOS.
